Fred dedicates his talk to three of our illustrious members, the late Ralph B. White, Anatoly M. Sagalevitch, and James Cameron, all of whom were intimate with the Titanic Saga.

Fred Hareland has served aboard various vessels as an electrician, electronic technician-tanker, electronic maintenance officer,
communications/electronics officer, and electronics engineer.
He holds an A.A.S. degree in rescue and survival operations and avionic systems technology from the Community College of the Air Force.
He is a NMEA certified marine electronics technician and NARTE certified telecommunications technician.
His sea going career has taken him from the US Navy and Coast Guard to the Military Sealift Command-Pacific, Maersk Line limited and Norwegian Cruise Line.
He currently works at China Lake, Naval Air Warfare Station as a senior microwave-communications technician
and is a member of the Los Angeles Adventurers' Club #1138.
Fred enjoys writing and is past president of the Ridge Writers which is the Eastern Sierra chapter of the California Writers Club.
He has been published in the following publications:

When in Burma's (Mayanmar) Golden triangle, a village elder gave me a note to give to a relative leader
in Laos that would help me if I needed to cross the boarder.
Once in Laos, I made the trek up to the boarder village where I was received as a guest of the tribe.
This was a surprise to my local guide.
In this program, Pierre explores the remote ethnic villages of Northwestern Laos.
Laos is an ancient country that today shares its borders with China, Burma, Thailand, Viet Nam and Cambodia,
thus providing that region with a broad ethnic mix.
The minorities in that region out number the ethnic Lao by two to one.
The remoteness of some of these villages provide us authentic insight to these minorities in the slowest state of change or vanishing.
In this program you will be taken to some of these remote hill villages to see the
Taialue, Kamu Lue, Akah, Hmong and the the Black Tai in their natural habitat.
November 17, 2011 - Ladies Night - Fraser Heston - Michael Rockefeller Documentary
In 1961, Michael Rockefeller left on a voyage down the cannibal coast of New Guinea in a trading canoe.
Several miles off shore, heavy seas swamped his craft.
After a night adrift, Rockefeller set out to swim for the distant shore, leaving his companion with the fateful words:
"I think I can make it..." He was never seen again. Or was he?
In 2007, filmmaker Fraser C. Heston discovered a cache of lost footage shot by
adventure-author Milt Machlin during his expedition to the cannibal coast of New Guinea in 1969,
in search of the lost scion, Michael Rockefeller.
The film includes previously unreleased footage and eye-witness interviews,
including some startling revelations,
which shed new light on the unsolved mystery of Michael's disappearance.
In the tradition of Werner Hertzog's "Grizzly Man", director Fraser Heston,
has created an entirely new film from Milt Machlin's unedited epic documentary.
The disappearance of Michael Rockefeller is one of the enduring unsolved mysteries of the 20th Century.
Fraser Heston is the son of Charlton Heston.
He grew up in the entertainment industry and has been an actor, writer and director.
Join us to share one of his accomplishments with his award winning Documentary on Michael Rockerfeller,
its history plus some personal insights.
