have been reassigned and ordered to report to their new stations.
We are fortunate indeed that two of our esteemed members have committed to share their nuclear submarine experiences with us on this night.
Mark your calendars and don't miss this meeting which promises to be a memorable event comprising two speakers,
both talking about different aspects of nuclear fast attack submarines.
You can also bring your wives or female friends because this will be a Ladies Night!
RALPH WHITE and Electronic/Communications Officer FREDRICK G. HARELAND’S SUBMARINE ADVENTURE
Christopher Reynold's human interest story in the LA Times about the posthumous travels of our late and esteemed member, Ralph B. White # 942,
only mentioned the possibility of a nuclear submarine ride for Ralph in his excellent article;
however all went according to plan.
Fredrick took Ralph covertly onboard with him for a December 18, 2010,
dependents cruise on the USS Asheville, SSN-758.
The Los Angeles Class Fast Attack sub left the Point Loma Submarine Base at 08:30,
steamed out to sea about 15 miles straight off of Ballast Point for some underway time for the crew, "Ralph" and Fredrick.
They arrived back in port and moored by 16:00, but their underway time on the Asheville was a real "E"-Ticket adventure for Fredrick and Ralph.
Fredrick is indebted to Senior Master Chief (SS) Neil Davenport who, as the sub's Chief of the Boat or COB,
made it possible for Ralph and Fredrick to accompany them on the dependents cruise.
Ralph was a covert mission of Fredrick's, and Neil knew nothing about him or his final disposition.
Come to Nuclear Submarine Night to find out the exciting details about Ralph and Fredrick’s submarine adventure and about Ralph's burial at sea!
